Apollo 15 photos

The Apollo 15 was the ninth Apollo manned emission (and the first one after I was born). These photos are from the NASA website and they are all PD. And now I feel like watching 2001: A Space Odyssey

Photochroms of St. Peterburg

These are old photochroms of St Peterburg before the Russian revolution. They come from the Library of Congress and can be seen here in a much higher resolution. These images have made me want to read "Anna Karenina" again.

A Big Tree ca. 1857

"Galen Clark first came upon a grove of some 200 giant sequoias in 1857 in what is now the southernmost part of Yosemite National Park. He named it Mariposa Grove and dedicated the rest of his life to its preservation. This tree is one of the oldest living trees in the grove, estimated at 2,700 years old. The tallest is approximately 290 feet high and the largest measures approximately 40 feet in diameter. In total volume, the giant sequoia trees are the largest living things on earth."

Steamboats

Tonight the collection of old photos is completely dedicated to steamboats. The first steamer sailed on the Doubs River (between France and Switzerland) in 1776.

Warning: Very good photos of Elephants.

The article is quite long and gives lots of advice on how to take good photos of elephants. Not that I do that a lot in South West London but you never know.
